HISTORIC DOWNTOWN JACKSONVILLE
The history of Jacksonville is rich and diverse. Originally established as a gold rush town, the community soon found its identity in agriculture, banking and business. With over 100 sites on the National Register of Historic Places, the town abounds with culture waiting to be explored. Many of the historic structures, such as the Beekman House, offer educational tours. The Jacksonville Trolley is a great way to see the town and get an overview of its historic landmarks.

WOODLAND TRAILS
Élan’s prime location offers guests easy access to miles of forest trails around Jackson Creek and Britt Gardens, which border 255 acres of woodland habitat and conserved land. These trails provide a wealth of information and entertainment, including an interpretive self-guided tour, a native plant arboretum, and local historic sites.
JACKSONVILLE CEMETERY
Jacksonville’s cemetery was dedicated in 1860, the same year the city was incorporated. The cemetery holds the remains of a variety of religious and ethnic groups. Many of the early pioneers who built Jacksonville are buried on this hilltop. The Friends of Jacksonville’s Historic Cemetery is a society which actively supports the preservation of the cemetery through education, tours, and annual fundraisers such as the Meet the Pioneers event each fall.
